The retail scene at the Cabin John mini-mall is looking pretty empty these days. Zohra Salon, Toy Castle, Sweetly Anchored, Tropicuts and Cell Fixx all have closed over the past year, and the liquor store will soon be relocating to a new spot near Giant. We’ve also seen the last of fitness studio Biker Barre, whose owner Jane Brodsky has changed her mind about reopening. “I just don’t feel comfortable putting my instructors, myself or my clients in a position that I don’t think is safe,” she says. “There really was no way to continue.” The mini-mall’s interior recently got a facelift, and there are still some great places to shop: Occasions and Shoe Train are always busy on the first floor, while Hanna’s Connection and Say Yes for Less continue to see customers by appointment on the second. Pamela Vito, who opened the bridal salon in 2017, says she’s optimistic about what’s next and feels confident that this period is just a transition. “My lease isn’t up until 2023, but I have no intention of moving,” she says. “I love where I am. Every single thing about it.”
