Three new openings for Wildwood, closings for H&M and Regal Cinemas

Wildwood restaurant opens next week

Piccoli Piatti, the newest venture from Fish Taco founder Francis Namin, is set to open its doors next week at Wildwood. The cuisine this time is Italian, with a broad menu featuring salads, pastas, small plates and authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas. Also: bottles of wine for a flat $20, and a signature dessert pizza topped with bananas, strawberries and Nutella. (All crusts, including the dessert pizza, will be available gluten-free.) The restaurant will offer socially distanced seating inside and a couple of tables outside, but for now Namin expects that most of his customers will choose takeout. “We won’t be doing any delivery,” he says. “I think our food will be good enough that people won’t mind coming by to pick it up.” For a peek at Piccoli Piatti, check out Store Reporter on Facebook and Instagram. As for Fish Taco, which has been closed since August due to a kitchen fire, Namin says he’s hoping to reopen this month.

Freeman's Auction House

New boutique opens its doors

In other Wildwood news, Indigo Octopus made its debut this week in the formerly empty space next to Flower Child. This is the second permanent location for the high-end boutique, which started in Delaware’s Fenwick Island and also operated a temporary pop-up in D.C. The store specializes in casual wear from brands like Golden Goose, Agolde, Mother and Anine Bing, plus a selection of jewelry and accessories. And just a few doors down, Wildwood also welcomed newcomer Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream & Treats. More on the locally owned sweet shop in our Oct. 1st edition.

Wintergreen Plaza

Closings & more closings

Fast-fashion retailer H&M is the latest chain to announce store closings, with plans to shutter some 250 locations in 2021. The Swedish company has 5,000 stores worldwide — including one at Pike & Rose — and has not specified which markets will take a hit. This week’s other big closing announcement came from the Regal movie theater chain, which is going dark nationwide for the foreseeable future. This doesn’t change things much in Montgomery County, where all movie theaters have been closed since March.
