Farm market to the mall, goodbye Elevation Burger, candy store comeback

Coming next week to Westfield Montgomery mall: Norman’s Farm Market, offering a fresh daily outdoor assortment of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats and breads. You’ll find the Norman’s tent at the corner of the Westlake Terrace parking lot, near the entrance to Cheesecake Factory. It will be there at least through Labor Day — maybe longer. “If all goes well, we may continue through October and then have pop-up markets through the winter,” says owner John Norman. Opening day is tentatively set for July 1st.

Bye bye burgers at Park Potomac

Elevation Burger went dark this week after a 12-year run at Park Potomac. Owner Yousuf Nagaria says the pandemic and rising rents made it difficult to turn a profit at this location, but he’s hoping to reopen at another space nearby. This closing comes just six months after the departure of neighboring Wine Harvest, leaving Park Potomac with two empty restaurant spaces down the sidewalk from Harris Teeter. Meanwhile, there will be no lack of burgers in Montgomery County: Shake Shack is about to add three new locations. More on that in our June 17th edition.

Bidding on a piece of history

What better way to celebrate July 4th than by bidding on your own personal copy of the Declaration of Independence? Next week, you can log onto the Freeman’s website and do exactly that. The auction house is selling a copy of the Declaration of Independence that once belonged to Charles Carroll, the first U.S. Senator from Maryland, who outlived John Adams to become the last of the original signers. This is a rediscovered copy, reprinted by William J. Stone in 1823, and it’s expected to fetch $500,000 to $800,000 at auction. So… do you own a historic document, photo, painting or something else that you’d like to have appraised? Debrah Dunner, Potomac-based rep for Freeman’s, says it’s not unusual to come across historic treasures that have been passed down by families in the D.C. area. Candy store comeback

Candy emporium It’Sugar, which exited Rockville Town Square at the end of last year, is returning with a new location inside Westfield Montgomery mall. This store should help fill the void left by the recent departures of Lolli and Pops, which closed in April, and Godiva, which closed just before Valentine’s Day. It’Sugar may lack the charming retro vibe of the former or the pricey prestige of the latter, but it does offer a vast selection of ridiculously oversized candy.
