More spirits on the Pike

Oak Barrel & Vine, the fancy new version of Montgomery County’s wine and liquor store chain, is heading to Rockville Pike. Nine months after a prototype store was unveiled at Cabin John Village, the Montrose Crossing location (home of Target and Burlington) will shut down this Saturday (Aug. 27th) for a similar transformation. The store will reopen this fall with a new look, more shelf space, a tasting room for special events, and a brand new selection of spirits and local products.

The Scoop swoops in

Say hello to Potomac’s newest dessert spot: The Scoop, newly open at Cabin John Village with an ever-changing menu of 20-plus flavors made on location. This week’s specialties include bourbon toffee crunch, coffee & biscuits, matcha green tea, and roasted soybean — as well as standbys like strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. Prices range from $4.39 for a kiddie scoop to $7.29 for a triple — more expensive than Baskin Robbins (soon to reopen at Potomac Woods Plaza), but less than national chains like Jeni’s. Don't be scared — it's a first sign of fall

You know fall is really around the corner when the Spirit Halloween stores start popping up around town. The seasonal retailer is heading to Rockville Pike, opening Labor Day weekend in the former Pier One space next to TGI Friday’s. This year’s hot costumes? Stranger Things characters, Top Gun: Maverick jumpsuits, Elvis in Vegas and Wednesday Addams.
