Macy's closing brings the bargains

Bargain-hunters have been descending on Macy’s at Lakeforest Mall after last week’s announcement that it’s getting ready to close. Macy’s had been the last department store still in business at Lakeforest, which is slated for redevelopment as early as next year. So are the deals at this location worth the trip to Gaithersburg? Probably not yet. Much of the inventory is currently marked 20 to 30 percent off, but employees tell us you can pretty much get those same discounts online. The dramatic drops — likely 75 to 80 percent off — will happen in the store’s final weeks, around the end of March.

Posh pets in Potomac

Good news for the furry members of your family: A Bethesda-based pet store has opened its second location at Park Potomac. Say hello to Elysiem, where you’ll find cute dog sweaters and cat toys, posh pet beds and luxe leashes along with treats and premium food. There’s a grooming salon on-site, and owner John McNeal tells us he’ll soon be offering delivery and live pet events. You’ll find Elysiem across the street from the Yirasai sushi restaurant, just down the sidewalk from Love Couture Bridal.

Here’s a sneak peek of En Sushi’s new dining room and bar, opening in the next few weeks in Potomac Village. This is an expansion of the existing restaurant, which has taken over the former Big Wheel Bikes space next door. The new area will include a full bar specializing in saki and signature cocktails.
