Lock 72 Kitchen & Bar, previously known as The Tavern at River Falls, has closed its doors after a multi-decade run in Potomac Village. Chef Robert Wiedmaier, who bought the restaurant in 2015 and changed its name the following year, told MoCo360 that his lease was not renewed. Wiedmaier, whose portfolio includes D.C.’s Marcel’s and Brasserie Beck, also closed Wildwood Kitchen in 2021. No word yet on what will replace Lock 72.

No offense but every single one of these updates were in the MCS Moco Show pages before they were here and I don’t see a thing attributing it to them.

We get comments like this from time to time, and we’d like to take a moment to educate our readers on how journalism works. Store Reporter is an independent news outlet offering retail and restaurant coverage for Rockville, Potomac and North Bethesda. We do all of our own reporting. We get our stories from a variety of sources: conversations with business owners and landlords, tips from readers, announcements made via press release, news articles in retail industry publications, social media posts from the stores and restaurants themselves, digging around in public documents, and just driving/walking around our community taking photos and knocking on doors. We are a weekly publication, which means that sometimes other news outlets will report something before you see it in Store Reporter. We don’t rush to publish a story first. We take our time to make sure that our weekly issues are up-to-date, polished and most of all accurate. When we pick up a tip from someone else’s reporting — as we did this week with a piece of information from MoCo360 — we always attribute. Most of the time, what you see in Store Reporter is a direct result of our own reporting. If it’s not, we’ll say so.

The Potomac Village desperately needs a proper and NICE restaurant. One can only go to Renatos so many times. And sorry, The Hunter’s Inn food was bad when I went there in August. NO more BANKS, fast food or liquor shops please!

Amen on all points! I would welcome a Panera or Corner Bakery – a place that offers breakfast items can do lots of business. We need to lobby Carmen, our rep at Zuckerman Gravely.

Sadly, I saw this coming. In a conversation with a very nice bartender about a month or so ago, we commented on how the restaurant was not very busy anymore. He shared the reason was mainly because their prices were raised to a point where people would think twice before going there. What used to be a great standby restaurant for locals became a place only for special occasions due to the high price point. Honestly we had sticker shock last time we were there, so we never went back. I just learned today about its closing because we were having a hard time finding a place to eat this evening.
