Goodbye Wine Harvest, hello to three new restaurants

Wine Harvest winds down

Wine Harvest, the restaurant/wine shop known for its convivial atmosphere, will close its doors in January after more than a decade at Park Potomac. This marks the end for the family-owned business, which also had a Kentlands location that closed in 2019. The departure will leave yet another empty space at Park Potomac, which recently lost both Addie’s (more here) and the Karma beauty salon (more here). The only new addition this year was Attman’s, which opened this fall in the former Zoës Kitchen space.

New Chinese eatery at Westlake

Soy Chinese Kitchen, the restaurant that was supposed to replace Fu Shing at Westlake Crossing, is never going to open after all. In its place as of this week: The Wok Chinese Kitchen, which arrived so unexpectedly that it doesn’t even have a permanent sign yet. Inside, the restaurant look nothing like the cozy Fu Shing; its bare-bones decor is clearly designed for takeout business. The menu features classic Americanized Chinese entrées (orange chicken, moo shu beef, shrimp lo mein, etc.) priced from $10 to $20. You’ll find The Wok in the shopping center just outside Westfield Montgomery mall, a few doors down from Corner Bakery and Don Pollo.

New restaurant for Rockville Town Square

After a slew of restaurant closings at Rockville Town Square this year, the neighborhood is finally welcoming a new eatery. Gyuzo Japanese BBQ, which opened last week, specializes in Wagyu beef cooked at your table and washed down with sake. Gyuzo is one of several small eateries that have divided up the former Mellow Mushroom space at 33 Maryland Ave. It’s this year’s only new addition so far for the Square, where 2020 has taken away Bar Louie, Gordon Biersch, La Tasca, Gumbo Ya Ya and Thai Pavilion. Next to open, date TBD: HalfSmoke, a D.C. restaurant that’s moving into the former American Tap Room/Pandora space. More on HalfSmoke in our Aug. 27th edition.

The return of Toosso

Toosso, the Pakistani restaurant that recently lost its home on Rockville Pike, has reopened at Loehmann’s Plaza in Kensington. The new location offers a modest, welcoming interior and an inexpensive menu of halal foods like chicken tikka, kofta, biryani and samosas. Like its one-time neighbor Pizza CS, Toosso was one of several businesses that closed in the Twinbrook area to make way for new development — including a future Wegmans.     The deli in the space of Zoes Kitchen is Attman’s Deli — not the Brooklyn Deli , which is only two blocks away. The two delis are in competition with each other, but I think there is enough demand for both to do well. Attman’s Deli has a very long history in Maryland going back over a hundred years. The main location is in Little Italy in Baltimore. The prior location in Montgomery County was in Cabin John Village. When the owners of Cabin John Village tried to raise the rent by a significant amount Marc Attman declined and decided to move. He is dedicated to keeping prices reasonable while maintaining a tradition of quality food. I (the poster) am just a happy customer.
