Frank Pepe pizzeria back on track

Great news for fans of Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana: The beloved Connecticut restaurant chain is finally moving forward on its new location at Westfield Montgomery mall. Construction is getting under way in the old Bobby’s Burger space next to Cheesecake Factory, which has been empty for more than 18 months. Frank Pepe, founded almost a century ago, is credited with creating the “New Haven style” of thin, crispy pizza baked in a coal-fired oven. Its signature pie features white clams, garlic and pecorino romano cheese. The mall location will have an inside entrance for shoppers, plus outside access for pickup and delivery. Opening date TBD.

New place for booze at Cabin John

The county-run wine and liquor store at Cabin John Village has closed its doors in the mini-mall, returning this fall with a new location and a “reimagined” format. Now under construction in the main strip center between Giant and Starbucks, this new store will feature a “wine library” and an event space for tasting parties. It’s all part of the county’s efforts to promote its “Maryland Made” program, featuring local businesses like Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard, 7 Locks Brewing, Denizens Brewing Co. and Twin Valley Distillers. More bubble tea for the Pike

Is there really room for more bubble tea shops on Rockville Pike? Two Taiwanese chains are betting that the answer is yes. Mr. Wish, now under construction near Starbucks at Congressional Plaza, offers the usual array of fruit teas, milk teas and smoothies. Tiger Sugar, opening next weekend in the old Jamba Juice space at Federal Plaza, is known for its generous dollops of brown sugar. Both brands look amazing on Instagram, of course. These two new spots will join a Rockville Pike bubble tea lineup that already includes Kung Fu Tea, Bambu Cafe, Bubble Tea Cafe, Gong Cha, SnowBots, Tea-Do, Ten Ren Tea, Ding Tea and Pearl Lady among others.
