Capo arrives at Cabin John
Capo Deli has opened its doors in the former Goldberg’s Bagels space at Cabin John Village, serving up an extensive menu of subs, Italian entrées and desserts. The meats and cheeses are from Boar’s Head, the bread is from Maryland’s Lyon Bakery, and there are several vegetarian options — including an excellent eggplant parmigiana. This is the first Montgomery County location for D.C.-based Capo, which gained a bit of pandemic-era fame with its Fauci Pouchy cocktails-to-go. Sadly, those are not on the menu here.

Designer goods on the Pike
Rockville’s Bonday boutique has relocated from Federal Plaza to Congressional Plaza, reopening this week under the new name Le Bonday. The store is now focused on new and pre-owned designer goods from the likes of Gucci, Chanel, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Tori Burch. Owner Felicity Tchoufa is also selling her own line of handbags, called Felicity T. You’ll find Le Bonday in the former Loyal Companion pet store space, between Shoe Fly and Appalachian Spring.

Last days for Altar'd State
Altar’d State, the Christian-themed women’s clothing chain, has apparently lost faith in the D.C. area. The Westfield Montgomery mall location will go dark on May 21st, following other recent closings in Arlington and Tysons Corner. Altar’d State, based in Tennessee, is known for its ultra-feminine styles and religious sensibilities. The dresses are frilly, the walls are lined with inspirational quotes, and there are prayer books in every fitting room. This approach has been successful in the south but less so in Maryland and Northern Virginia, staffers tell us. Altar’d State had been at the mall for five years.

Another closing in the Dining Terrace
This week we say goodbye to Greek Aroma, a Mediterranean halal restaurant that opened just last November in the Dining Terrace at Westfield Montgomery mall. This closing comes just a month after the departures of Butter Me Up and HalfSmoke, each of which also lasted less than a year.

Jenny Craig slims down to nothing
The Jenny Craig weight-loss chain, which relied on mail-order meals and counseling instead of trendy diet drugs, is going out of business after 40 years. All 500 locations, including the one at Rockville’s Wintergreen Plaza, have gone dark as of this week.
