AMC takes the stage

Well hello there, ArcLight lobby. Long time no see. Two years, in fact. But the lights are on now, the boxes are being unpacked, the ArcLight signs have all been removed, and the AMC banners are being hoisted. The world’s largest movie theater chain has officially announced what we’ve all known for quite some time: It’s taking over the theater at Westfield Montgomery mall, and doors could be open by next month. In other welcome news: AMC’s frequent-viewer loyalty club, which gets you a dozen flicks a month for $21.95 plus tax, will be honored at this location.

Sweets in, sports out at the mall

In other mall news: See’s Candies is back for Valentine’s Day, while next-door neighbor Sheepskin Gifts has departed until next winter. And Sports Nation, which sold hats, jerseys and other team merch, has closed its doors after a four-year run. Meanwhile, there are signs of progress at Butter Me Up in the old Aroma space. More on that in our Jan. 13th edition.

Bar-on-a-boat sails to Pike & Rose

New restaurant about to make waves at Pike & Rose: Hello Betty, expanding from California, is taking over the rooftop patio at the Canopy by Hilton hotel. The menu will feature crabs, tacos, peel-and-eat-shrimp, local beers and cocktails. But the showstopper here will be the bar itself: A rehabbed 40-foot boat (sneak peek above) that should be up and running by summer.
