Cabin John bakery to open next month

The new restaurants at Cabin John Village are still months away from completion, but the Sweetly Anchored bakery will be open in just a few weeks. Owner Lindsay Miniaci, known locally for her custom cakes, will be serving freshly made sweets, snacks, coffee and tea at the former Orange Leaf space inside the Cabin John mini-mall. Red Door Spa & Salon at Wildwood

As one Red Door closes, another opens

The Red Door Spa & Salon is about to close those red doors at Wildwood Shopping Center. The salon is relocating to a larger space next to the brand new Canopy Hotel at Pike & Rose, where it’s tentatively set to reopen April 6th. No word yet on who’s taking over the Red Door space at Wildwood, but we hear that it will likely be divided among several smaller tenants. Meanwhile, there’s another new salon on the way: Karma Erwin Gomez, headed by the D.C.-based celebrity makeup artist, is set to open in the next few weeks at Park Potomac. Bummer week for the kids

To no one’s surprise, Toys R Us announced this week that it will sell or close all 800 of its U.S. stores including the Babies R Us chain. For our take on what went wrong with Toys R Us — and why our local toy stores may fare better — click here. In related news, the Kidville play center in Rockville also has closed after a long tenure at Fallsgrove. The Bethesda Kidville, under different ownership, is still in business.
